Halloween – Traditions and History- Infographics

Originated as a Celtic festival of Samhain in Ireland, Halloween has evolved to be the second largest shopping time for the Americans next only to Christmas. Though  it was a day for remembering the dead in earlier times, today Halloween is all about fun,  spooky costume parties, trick or treat fun and a lot more.

While it’s always had a morbid, spooky vibe and a rich confluence of pagan, Celtic, and Christian influences, the festivities have changed a lot over the years.

Americans indeed got creative with their ideas of observing this day. Inspired by many European traditions like dressing up in costumes and going house to house, they came up with trick or treating, costume parties and a lot of socializing on this day.

Above all, Halloween has become one of the busiest seasons for retailers as Americans shop for gifts and costumes, decorations and above all candy as parades and parties rock the streets.

Today, US shoppers spend an estimated $6 billion annually on Halloween, the bulk of which accounts to candy shopping.
